Sophie is a psychologist at OpenUp. She is an empathic, caring and calm psychologist who strives to create a safe environment for you in order to be able to open up. She is there to support you on your mental health journey and to help you face the challenges that we face in life.

She is able to listen to your difficulties carefully with the ability to dissect what is being said, allowing you to see things from a different perspective. She is able to teach you techniques in order to manage your difficult thoughts, unwanted behaviours and improve awareness of the impact that this has on the body. She is particularly passionate about helping you to improve your self-esteem, find purpose in life and have a healthy lifestyle.

Sophie mainly uses Cognitive Behavioural Techniques (CBT) in therapy sessions however she is also trained in Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) and Solution-Focused Therapy. Meaning that all your needs will be taken into account and you will receive a well-rounded therapy approach.

Sophie has 5 years of experience as a psychologist having worked in crisis mental health services, basic mental healthcare and specialised healthcare. This means that she is able to assess your needs accurately and look at the difficulties together with you and make a plan moving forwards.

To take care of her own mental health, Sophie enjoys getting out in nature, hiking in the mountains and practising gratitude each day. This allows her to take a peaceful step back and observe how she is feeling.

She obtained her Clinical Psychology Master’s degree from Erasmus University Rotterdam and has since obtained a certificate in CBT from the University of East Anglia (UEA) in the UK.

Sophie is a native English speaker.
