The stress response, or “fight or flight” response is our body’s emergency reaction system. It is there to keep us safe in emergencies and includes physical and cognitive responses to your perception of various situations.

 

Despite its negative connotations, the stress response plays a fundamental role in our health. We can’t live without the stress hormone called cortisol, as it balances many of our vital functions. 

However, in today’s world, many people release too much cortisol. We experience a chronic activation of the stress response without ample time to fully relax and recover.
